Dr. Hoffman joined Peninsula Alternative Health with more than 18 years of experience as a pharmacist, serving patients on Delmarva. A founding partner, she serves as Clinical Director, overseeing all medical aspects of the organization. Among her primary duties, she trains all employees on the medical aspects of cannabis, evaluates the medical claims and efficacies of products, consults with patients with difficult cases, interfaces with growers and suppliers for quality control and is the liaison with the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission.
A native of Ocean City, Md., she graduated as a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Pharmacy in 1997. Before helping to found PAH, she was a retail pharmacist in Salisbury and Berlin, Md. She was also at one point the Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore School of Pharmacy, co-instructing a course in selected topics about medical cannabis.
Dr. Hoffman often reflects that “In the year we have been open, I’ve seen greater patient success stories at the dispensary than I saw in 18 years behind a pharmacy counter.” She became a champion of medical cannabis after an experience 15 years ago when, “In the course of researching alternative sources of relief for chemotherapy induced nausea for an elderly cancer patient, I was drawn to the effectiveness of cannabis. I began to read studies and peer reviewed articles on the use of cannabis as medicine and was fascinated by the history, safety, efficacy, and broad range of potential clinical applications.”
In addition to her work with PAH, Dr. Hoffman volunteers with Women Supporting Women and local Parkinson’s support groups. She lives with her husband, Brad, and their daughter in Ocean City, Md.
