Human Cases
There is immense evidence demonstrating cannabis can achieve anticancer effects in humans. Below are links to reports where humans have claimed substantial regression or remission from cancers. Many patients used cannabis medicines as the sole therapy, or in addition to chemotherapy in situations where the chemotherapy alone was not expected to produce strong responses. These reports are backed up by strong medical or circumstantial support. Several cases are published in peer-reviewed medical journals and featured on PubMed, an electronic resource from the National Institutes of Health which aggregates biomedical research. These cases are only a fraction of what has been reported, but demonstrate the fact that documented cases exist for most major cancer types. Unfortunately, additional human studies have been inhibited by research restrictions, stigma, and financial burdens. Such restrictions must be alleviated as soon as possible.
It is important to reiterate that this evidence should not be used as justification to forego conventional treatment. Cannabis does not work for everyone and delaying conventional treatment is a serious risk. The evidence strongly suggests combining cannabis and conventional therapy is most effective. Furthermore, even some patients who have obtained remission from terminal cancers with cannabis or cannabis with chemotherapy have succumbed to recurrent cancer. To demonstrate this, stories where the patient is known to have passed away feature asterisks next to them. Despite clear imperfections, the truth remains that cannabis medicine can produce significant anticancer effects in many cases.
